Are you looking for a way to meet and connect with other parents and caregivers in your community? If you are, then Parent Cafés are the perfect resource for you. Parent Cafés provide families with the opportunity to engage in guided round table discussions with other local parents facing the same joys, concerns and questions related to raising children. As we all know, parenting can be overwhelming and hard sometimes. The Parent Cafés are a great reminder that there are people in our own community who can help us out when support is needed.
Parent Cafés are based on the Strengthening Families Framework and the Five Protective Factors. These Protective Factors are:
Resilience: Parent Resilience
Relationships: Positive Social Connections
Support: Concrete Support in Times of Need
Knowledge: Knowledge of Parenting and Child Development
Communication: Social and Emotional Competence
The goal of the Parent Cafés is to help parents and caregivers increase these protective factors in their own life. The more protective factors present in each family, the stronger the family is and the more prepared they are to face life’s challenges.
Columbia County Family Center offers a full-series of Parent Cafés twice a year. Each series covers all five of the protective factors. Parents and Caregivers who attend the cafés learn more about each protective factor and also have the opportunity to build upon that protective factor through their experience at the café.
