Active Parenting of Teens provides parents and caregivers the guidance and support that is needed to turn the challenges of raising a teenager into opportunities for growth. Successfully parenting pre-teens and teens will always be one of the hardest challenges for parents and caregivers.  This is especially true in today’s society where children are forced to become adults rather quickly. Children growing up in today’s world have to make decisions about drugs, sexuality, and violence before they understand the consequences of their decisions.  That is why a parent’s or caregiver’s role in guiding their youth is more important than ever. The Active Parenting of Teens curriculum helps ensure that parents and caregivers are equipped with the necessary knowledge and tools needed to help their children develop the skills and character they need to not only survive but to thrive as they grow and gain independence.

County Family Center’s Active Parenting of Teens sessions are open to parents and caregivers of tweens and teens (13 years and older). As with the Active Parenting 4th edition, parents and caregivers enrolled in the Active Parenting of Teens sessions will receive guidance from parenting class instructors to gain the necessary tools and skills needed to raise safe, healthy and responsible youth.

Active Parenting of Teens participants will learn:

  • Methods of respectful discipline

  • Skills for clear, honest communication

  • Concrete strategies to prevent risky behavior

  • How to be an encouraging parent

  • Insight into important issues such as teens online, bullying, and depression

Classes offered through the Columbia County Family Center are free to all parents and caregivers who reside in Lower Luzerne, Columbia and Montour counties.

Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, all parenting classes are currently being offered virtually, on a one on one basis through the Zoom platform. Parents and caregivers wishing to enroll in classes must have consistent and
stable internet access.
